When Destiny 2 launched it was quite primitive compare to the previous title. It really only required you to obtain Glimmer, as that was the currency needed to pretty much everything.

With the release of Forsaken, Destiny 2 has become a bit more complex with its economy. New players and even old players might have a hard time navigating all the change that Bungie implemented with their latest expansion. So here are some tips to get you going in the wonderful world that is Destiny:

  1. Everything You Owned Before Forsaken is Useless

Every piece of gear you owned (excluding Exotics) now means nothing. First order of business is to dismantle any old weapons or armor you have in your vault and what you’re carrying (except the pieces you are wearing/using). You’ll need the Legendary Shards, Weapon Parts and Mod Components.

2. The Gunsmith Only Carries Two Mods

While you used to get a random mod when going to the gunsmith. Now, Banshee-44 only carries two mods at a time. These mods do change everyday, so if you don’t see a mod you like, just wait a little while. It’s important you wait, as each mod you purchase costs 10 Mod Components and you really shouldn’t waste them on an “O.K.” mod.

3. Glimmer is Still Important

You use Glimmer for pretty much everything. Buying bounties (which there are plenty of), items from your Collections and mainly, for infusion. It can be rather expensive to buy every single daily bounty from all the vendors in the system, on every character, and be able to infuse gear for those characters.

4. Planetary Resources are Worth Your Time to Collect

Before Forsaken, you didn’t really need to collect the resources on every planet because they only counted towards that planet’s vendor. Now you need them for infusion and it’s not cheap. Each infusion costs 25 of whatever planetary resource is required for that piece of gear. It’s 25 for everything, weapons, armor and exotic pieces.

It’s also used when buying Legendary Shards from Spider in the Tangled Shore. Since his inventory changes everyday, you might not have enough of a particular resource to buy Shards. So, don’t pass by them when you’re roaming a planet.

5. Loot as Many Chest as You Can Find

This goes right alongside planet resources. If you’re free roaming, open every chest you see. If there’s a public event, don’t hesitate to get involved. These chest not only give you valuable Glimmer, but they also give out two resources upon opening. This will significantly cut down your time of collecting Glimmer and resources.

6. Bounties

These are extremely valuable and worth your time to pick up. Planet specific vendors give 10 of their planet’s resource for finishing menial task like, completing a few patrols. This, combined with looting chests and picking up material, should bank you a decent amount of resource supply.

If you’re in a Clan, Hawthorn has daily and weekly bounties that give you Clan XP. This is vital for those who wish to have perks from leveling the Clan.

Tess Everess also has bounties, although most of them you can only purchase with Eververse Bounty Notes. Acquiring these Notes is simple: just get a Bright Engram (by leveling up your Guardian after you hit level cap or buying them). She also has daily and weekly bounties.

Spider has the most bounties in this expansion, giving 15 Wanted bounties and seven daily bounties. This will level you up really quick and each Wanted bounty gives you legendary gear. Spider’s dailies are only 250 Glimmer a piece and upon completion you’ll receive 2500 Glimmer. That’s a great return on investment.

Zavala no longer has bounties that just pertain to Strikes. He now bounties that you can complete in free roam, like getting a number of precision kills. So you can level your Vanguard rank really easily and either keep or dismantle the gear he gives you.

There are numerous bounties to grab in the “new” Destiny 2 and you should take advantage of them.

7. Infusion

For the love of Cayde-6, don’t infuse gear you get early on into Forsaken. Wait until you’ve reached at least level 515 to start infusing your gear. You’ll waste so much Glimmer and materials on less useful gear.

If you manage to get a double a piece of gear, and one is higher Light than the other, you can infuse for Glimmer only.

8. Spider is Your Best Friend

Aside from having the most useful bounties in the system, he also carries Masterwork Cores and Legendary Shards, which are essential to your Guardian. The Cores are used for infusion and gaining Tiers on your gear. The Tiers can get expensive on your armor pieces, and infusion typically cost three Cores every time.

Spider sells Legendary Shards for a random cost, which changes everyday. So if it’s Dusklight Crystals today, it might be Glimmer the next. That’s why it’s important to gather material, as your all your Guardians share the same resource and Glimmer pool.

10 Tips That Might Come in Handy in Destiny 2's Forsaken Expansion

There is a catch to getting Masterwork Cores from Spider. They require 10 Legendary Shards per one Core, if you thought that was pricey, it doubles every time you purchase a Core. So, 10 for the first, 20 for the second, 40 for the third and so on. It can get quite expensive to obtain Cores, but not impossible.

He also sells planetary materials. So if you’re short on infusing a piece of gear, go to Spider and he might have five of whatever resource you’re looking for. The resources he carries also change everyday, so keep that in mind.

9. Tiers are a Pain

When you finally get the gear you plan to keep for awhile, there are now Tiers to upgrade. Weapons has 10 Tiers to make it Masterwork, while armor only have five. Getting Masterwork for armor is much easier than fully upgrading a weapon.

They both need Glimmer, Legendary Shards and Masterwork Cores, hence why you should gather needed materials. Each time you move up a Tier it cost more Shards and Cores.

10. Always Do Your Milestones

Ok, technically the “Milestones” in Forsaken are more like weekly and daily bounties. Each of these will give you Legendary gear, with the exception of the weekly Flashpoint on a random planet.

Flashpoints give Powerful Gear, which is guaranteed to drop a piece of gear higher than any you own. If you can only spend minimal time on Destiny 2, make time to get the Flashpoint done.
