It’s that time of year again, New Call Of Duty time. This year’s entry is Call Of Duty Black Ops 4. Developed by Treyarch, Black Ops 4 returns to boots on the ground combat similar to Blacks Ops 1 and 2.

There is no campaign present in Black Ops 4, instead you can hit up the Specialist HQ and play through the specialist missions to see the Black Ops 4 storyline. In the Specialist HQ you will select a specialist from the group of specialist and play through a training course and a skirmish to unlock a cutscene that reveals a little bit of the storyline. The skirmish plays out like a multiplayer match with bots. You can replay them on higher difficulty to increase your start rating on each one. There are 3 stars to unlock for each specialist.

Multiplayer

The Multiplayer in Black Ops 4 is fun and exciting but not perfect. There are some server issues causing lag and shoot first die first has been a problem for us since launch. Hopefully they get that fixed quickly as it does lead to major frustration. We also feel there is some balancing issues with some weapons and specialist abilities. Nomad’s dog is far too strong and Tac mask should nullify all effects from flashes, stuns etc yet it only reduces the effects still leaving you an easy target.

Multiplayer features 10 specialists, each with their own set of unique abilities. The Pick 10 system returns to create a class with a couple new additions, Gear and The Operator mod. The Operator mod is a power attachment for your weapon. Most guns can use an Operator mod. The operator mod effects each weapon differently so make sure you read the description for each weapon. Gear can be equipped in the gear slot and features Armor, The Sensor Dart, Comsec device and more. Here is a complete list of perks, weapons, operator mods and gear.

As of the time of this writing, multiplayer plays well. The controls and aiming feel smooth and responsive, but getting a kill takes a few extra bullets. Players have 50 extra health points in Black Ops 4. Health is now 150, while previous entries featured only 100 health. Most multiplayer game modes are now played in the 5v5 format. The result is a more tactical, slower paced Call of Duty multiplayer experience than its predecessors. Right now Black Ops 4’s multiplayer features 13 game modes:

Core

  • Control
  • Heist
  • Free for All
  • Kill Confirmed
  • Search and Destroy
  • Domination
  • Hardpoint
  • Team Deathmatch

Hardcore

  • HC Free For All
  • HC TDM
  • HC Kill Confirmed
  • HC Domination
  • HC Search and Destroy

There are some server issues causing some lag, shoot first die first has been a problem for us since launch. Hopefully they get that fixed quickly as it does lead to major frustration.

Blackout

Call Of Duty Black ops 4 features a new battle royale mode named Blackout. Blackout combines the refined first person shooter mechanics of Call Of Duty and the huge map and chaos of the battle royale genre.

Players start by wing suiting to a a player chosen location on the map. Once you have landed your goal is to find weapons, armor, perks and attachments as quickly as possible while staying in the battle area and killing any enemy you see along the way.

While the battle royale genre isn’t new, Black Ops 4’s unique blend of FPS and Battle Royale work very well. If you’re already a fan of Call Of Duty and Battle Royale then Blackout will feel right at home for you.

Zombies

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Review

Zombies mode has returned in Black Ops 4, featuring 3 maps (4 If you purchase the Black Ops Pass), new modes and a very customizable custom match mode. We spent a few hours with zombies and enjoyed it. New perk and pack-a-punch systems require some exploring and thinking to figure out and makes zombies feel fresh. The Maps are well designed and fun. Each very unique. (with the exception of the Black Ops Pass Exclusive Zombies Map “Classified”) Here is the list of zombies maps available at launch in Black Ops 4:

  • IX -The quest to find Scarlett’s father takes the crew back in time, where they’ll shoot and slash their way through a cavernous coliseum crawling with hordes of the undead.
  • Voyage Of Despair — Was it an iceberg or the zombies? It’s 1912 on the infamous maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic, and our heroes have arrived to capture an artifact that may shed light on the mystery at the center of their adventure.
  • Blood Of The Dead -The return of a fan-favorite! In their mission to ‘secure a better tomorrow’, Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo and Nikolai journey to a secret laboratory beneath the iconic Alcatraz Penitentiary.

The Bottom Line

Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 won’t disappoint fans who enjoy the classic boots on the ground combat that made Call Of Duty popular. If you’re looking a for a fun, fast paced fluid battle royale, Blackout is for you. If you are a fan of the Call Of Duty franchise, you will overall enjoy Black Ops 4 and it is worth buying.
