In an unexpected turn of events, Capcom has announced that Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is coming to PS4 and Xbox One this fall.

Dragon’s Dogma was never a particularly popular title however it is seen as a bit of a cult classic. The game had many surface level problems: it didn’t look very good, animations are a bit stiff and the written dialogue was mediocre. Despite this the game had many interesting gameplay mechanics. Players could climb onto monsters to attack vulnerable areas such as wings, tails, and eyes. It also had a multiplayer component where players could use AI companions that were created by other players. Other smaller features included the ability to change classes freely, the need to set up fast travel points, and changes in monster behavior based on conditions like time of day, character gender, and health.

Although not officially stated, this is likely a way for Capcom to test whether or not there is enough interest to justify a sequel.
