Epic is still trying to resolve the issues that are plaguing the Playground LTM. It appears they know exactly what’s causing the delay and are working feverishly to get it resolved. This limited time mode was supposed to launch alongside the v4.5 title update, but hasn’t made an appearance since.

In a Reddit post, Epic gave insight as to what technical problems there systems are facing. It’s stated they are working on a few “data anomalies”, which they need to understand before relaunching. Aside from doing scale tests, the team is also testing other scenarios:

  • Exhausting server capacity,
  • Matchmaking queue back-pressure specific to the LTM,
  • Recovering when new capacity is added, etc

Epic also stated “It’s hard to know whether we’ll have to make any additional system changes in order to meet our test goals right now. We won’t know that for sure until after we complete our current testing phase, which will be done in a few hours.”

In the same Reddit post, Epic also shared two tech updates, the first was put up four days ago, while the second was two days ago.
