Today on PlayStation’s blog, Dominic Matthews from Nin­ja The­o­ry, announced today that Hell­blade: Senua’s Sac­ri­fice has reached its alpha stage.

This means that for the first time the game is playable from begin­ning to end. This does not mean it is close to com­ple­tion, they still have a lot of work do, accord­ing to Matthews. He also stat­ed:

Some parts of the game are start­ing to look and feel just as we envi­sioned, where­as oth­ers are still only built to a basic lev­el. The impor­tant thing at this stage is that all of the areas are laid out and the design clear­ly defined.”

The team is mak­ing tons of progress though. They have shot all their per­for­mance cap­ture screens, which are now in the process of being put into the game. Voic­es overs have been record­ed that fol­lows through­out Senua’s sto­ry. 

All game­play mechan­ics are in and being refined. The com­bat sys­tem is already in place and set for thor­ough playtest­ing. There is also puz­zle expe­ri­ences — which are based on learn­ing psy­chosis — are now ready for final pol­ish art. Most of the games music is com­plete and mixed into the Hellblade’s sound­scape.

The next stage for the team is Beta, but it seems they are get­ting there fast. Iron­ing out the bugs and com­plet­ing the final prod­uct is just on the hori­zon, as the game is sup­posed to be launch­ing lat­er this year for PS4 and PC.
