Today, Niantic announced that Poké­mon Go would be cel­e­brat­ing the glob­al Water Fes­ti­val, by giv­ing play­ers a high­er chance to encounter water-type Poké­mon.

The cel­e­bra­tion for the Water Fes­ti­val starts today at 1 p.m., PDT time, and ends on March 29th at 1 p.m. PDT. For the next week, play­ers will see an increase in Magikarp, Squir­tle, Totodile, and all of their evo­lu­tions, around the whole world. Pokemon Go Water Festival Gives a Higher Chance of Finding Water Pokemon

Along with the encounter increase of these spe­cif­ic Poké­mon, there will be a greater chance of see­ing sev­er­al dif­fer­ent types of Water-type Poké­mon, which are orig­i­nal­ly found in the Johto region. You will get this height­ened chance only around water areas. You might even see a Lapras, which is one of the hard­est water Poké­mon to find. 

Also today, Niantic added anoth­er avatar wardrobe item: a Magikarp Hat. There is no pic­ture of the hat, but once we get one we will update as soon as pos­si­ble.
