Yesterday Rockstar announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 would be delayed until spring 2018. Exact details were not given however Rockstar said the following:
“This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans.
We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer.”
According to Take-Two Interactive’s latest earnings report, Red Dead Redemption 2 will be in the 2019 fiscal year. This means that game will release sometime after April 1st 2018.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was recently asked why the game was delayed during a quarterly finical conference for investors. He stated that the game’s delayed wasn’t because of any major or particular problems. It was due to their desire to create an experience that is up to the standards consumers have come to expect.
“I think the purpose for the delay for Red Dead Redemption 2 is to make sure that we deliver the most extraordinary experience that we’re capable of providing.
We haven’t run into particular issues, we’re building a new game from the ground up for the first time for new-generation consoles, and the pressure that we put on ourselves to deliver excellence to the consumers is extraordinary. And we want to make sure that the appropriate time is taken to deliver the best game that we can, and I think that’s what consumers expect of Rockstar Games, and that’s what Rockstar Games typically delivers.
So we support emphaticaly the lanbel’s decision, and we’re utterly confident that it’ll prove in time to be wise, first and foremost creatively and artistically, and economically as well.”
Because of the delay Rockstar has released screenshots for Red Dead Redemption 2 and promises more information in the summer.
