At Sony’s E3 press conference Shadow of the Colossus was announced for PS4. At the time details were scarce, it wasn’t even clear whether the game was a remake or another remastered port. Now the game has been confirmed as a complete remake by Famitsu (translation via siliconera).

During an interview with Famitsu, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei YoShida confirmed that the game is a remake. He states that the content will remain the same, but all the assets have been remade.

It is a remake. The game content is the same as the original version, but all the assets are being remade. I figured we could use such tech to make if we’re going to make Shadow of the Colossus in the PS4 era. Bluepoint is the development company behind the PS3 remaster versions of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. So we know them rather well.”

Yoshida also revealed that this Shadow of the Colossus remake will have modernized controls. Although fans will also have the option to stick with the old controls if they wish to keep the old experience.

It’s the same, but player preferences for controls and such change over time, so we’re working on implementing a more modernized way to play. And of course you can play with a feel of the original version, but what we’re doing is showing how great the original work is, using today’s technology.”
